This project started with a creative banter on how to design an interactive medium provided by nature, for nature. A less-than-subtle, serendipitous landing of a butterfly on a gelato seeded the idea, which eventually evolved into an interactive artwork for birds, bees, butterflies and more.

The appeal of the painting lies in a concoction of artificial nectar, aka sugared water, a special, biodegradable binder and natural pigments, locally and responsibly sourced from plants and vegetables in the Netherlands. This special blend proved to be a success from initial trials in Amsterdam.

The popularity of the artwork with 'visitors' questioned if it could be a canvas (no pun intended) to encourage cross pollination and/or propagation of rare and desirable plant species. With this foresight, 3D interaction models are considered, built and tested to understand the optimal format for pollen transfer.
